SULLIVAN COUNTY – 8-Man football is off to a slow start this season with just three of the seven county teams seeing action so far. Last weekend The Eldred Yellowjackets commanded the field against Ellenville shutting out the Blue Devils 34-0. They will face Pawling tomorrow on their home turf at 11am. Returning to the field this year for the Yellowjackets are James Deyermond, Koen McGill and Trai Kaufmann among others.
Fallsburg Comets have a questionable season ahead this year, forfeiting their first two scheduled games against Ellenville and Cairo-Durham. We will see in the coming weeks if Comets football will compete on the field this year.
The Redhawks will be on the road for the majority of their season with their athletic field getting a much needed upgrade. The Democrat spoke with Coach Adam Lake a few weeks ago who is hoping to “...play at least one game at home this season.” The Redhawks suffered their first loss of the season last weekend to Walton. They will face O’Neill tonight at 6:30 pm.
The Monticello Panthers’ athletic field is also getting a much needed face lift this season. With construction heavily under way they won’t be hosting any home games anytime soon. The Panthers took a tough 54-0 season opening loss to Rondout Valley and look to regroup as they meet their namesake Walkill “Panthers” tonight on the road at 7:00 pm.
Newly combined Rockland Central School District begins the season under their new name and mascot, the Rockland Wolves. “There’s positive movement happening, shared coach Mike Hill.”
The Wolves will kick off the season with their first game against Onteora. The game will take place on their home field at the Rockland middle school/high school football field on Saturday, September 13, at 7 PM.
Section IX and Division Champs Sullivan West Bulldogs are set to play Cairo-Durham under the lights at 7 pm tonight on the road. The Bulldogs look to return to the top this season and make another run for the Regionals crown. Alec Hubert, Dylan Lockwood, and Jesse Milk are just a few of the names that return this season to help them get there.
The Tri-Valley Bears ended their last season at 7-2, second in the league. The Bears are on the road this week to face Millbrook tonight at 7:00 pm.
