Please vote on your school budget

Posted

Next week on Tuesday, May 20, you get to play a big role in deciding the next step of your child’s educational process – approving the upcoming school budget for the next year as well as electing school board members in many Sullivan County districts.

For the first time since the merger that brought the county what is now Sullivan West Central School District, there is one less budget to pass thanks to the merger of Livingston Manor Central and Roscoe Central into the newly-named Rockland School District. That makes a grand total of seven budgets.

Each one is different, but each one requires the input of the community. With that being said, this is your reminder to take your child’s education, your school taxes and your local leaders into consideration and make time to vote!

For some schools, there are plans for capital projects to improve the day-to-day lives of students, teachers and administrators. In Liberty for example, there are talks of revamping the air conditioning to offer more of a comforting environment.

In most other budgets all across the county, there are also local residents running for a seat on the various boards of education. Be sure to do your research and make the best decision available to you when choosing who will lead the charge for the education of not just your child, but that of the whole community.

For specific voting times and locations, be sure to visit your respective school’s website, or check out the Democrat’s recent coverage of the budgets and their highlights in this edition, as well as our May 13 edition.

Happy voting!
