FALLSBURG – On Thursday, October 22, the Comets put on a strong performance on senior night against Catskill-Cairo, showing resilience and teamwork. Despite leading by only six points at halftime, the Comets maintained their momentum into the second half. Early in the third quarter, after Catskill-Cairo turned the ball over, Fallsburg took control. Quarterback Xavier Young connected with Ray’von Thompson, moving the ball near the first-down marker.
Young then ran the ball in for a touchdown, increasing the Comets’ lead to 12 points with under four minutes left in the third quarter. As the quarter came to a close, Thompson reached the end zone again and Fallsburg took an 18-0 lead as they entered the final quarter. Following a missed punt recovery by Catskill-Cairo, the Comets regained possession from their own 45-yard line.
Throughout the game, tensions rose, and Catskill-Cairo received multiple penalties for unnecessary roughness and illegal facemasks due to the intense atmosphere. Young and Thompson combined for another touchdown, bringing the score to 26-0 after a successful conversion. The game saw escalating disciplinary issues in the fourth quarter, resulting in three ejections for Catskill-Cairo and one for Fallsburg. Fortunately, the coaches and officials quickly intervened to restore order and prevent additional ejections. After these incidents, Catskill-Cairo decided not to continue, and the game was called. Fallsburg Head Coach Dominick Scanna expressed his pride, stating, “I am very proud of my guys’ progression this season. They have come together as a family, and I am proud to be their coach!”
