LIVINGSTON MANOR – The Rockland Wolves hosted the Seward Spartans for a non-league boys basketball game. It was an intense match all throughout with the score constantly going back and forth. It seemed like neither team could get a leg up for very long but luckily for them, Rockland was able to take a 69-59 win over Seward.
Coach Hicks of Rockland had this to say after the win, “Excellent game to be a part of. Win or lose it was just great basketball. It was incredibly fast paced, and we hit baskets consistently. I’m very happy with the team win.”
Both teams were evenly matched right out of the gate. Anytime Rockland scored it wasn’t long before Seward matched them. Both teams had solid outside shooters that were going shot for shot. Seward was slowly able to develop a lead in the first quarter with Grey Whitmore having the hot hand. Whitmore led his team as top scorer of the game. Fortunately for the Wolves, they were able to close the gap and even surpassed Seward late in the second quarter.
However, Seward held on to match Rockland’s pace allowing the Spartans to end the quarter up 38-37 going into halftime.
Rockland came out of the locker room ready to hustle. Consistent offensive rebounds gave them multiple attempts every possession, giving them the lead early on. The Wolves kept up their early momentum, scoring nearly 20 points while locking down Seward to just 6 points in the third quarter. This was largely due to Ben Johnston’s performance, scoring 28 points on his own.
But the Spartans weren’t going down without a fight and were able to close the gap in the final quarter. Rockland was up by 9 points with just 4 minutes left on the clock. Fortunately for Rockland they were able to hold the lead and finish out the game with a win!
