MONTICELLO – It was a beautiful September day for golf at The Monster at Resorts World Catskills as the Monticello Panthers hosted the Rockland Wolves in a tightly contested match that came down to just four strokes.
Rockland ultimately edged Monticello 243-247, with Gavin Thomas leading the way with the best round of the day at 38. Ben Johnston followed with a 46, while Logan Thomas shot a 49, Liam Husson finished at 53 and Garrett Kurpil recorded a 57.
Monticello put together a balanced performance of its own, led by Daniel Weyer with a team-best 47. Landin Raynor was right behind with a 48, followed by Jeremy Tuttle at 49 and Chris Belgiovere at 51. Evan Weyer and Stephen Alvarez each finished with a 52.
“We’re playing pretty well coming into this match,” Rockland coach Nicholas Wyss said. “We had two players shoot well against Fallsburg. We’re 2-1 overall and only lost to Goshen by one stroke in our first match. Definitely looking forward to divisionals on Monday.”
Despite coming up just short, Monticello coach Chris Russo was pleased with how his team has performed this fall and with the Panthers’ new home at The Monster.
“We’re 3-1 this season and I’m really happy with how everyone’s playing,” Russo said. “We’ve gotten good groups of kids in all the matches. We’re super happy to be at The Monster. They treat us well and it’s a beautiful course to play.”
