MONTICELLO – An overcast day still provided good conditions for golf at The Monster at Resorts World Catskills, where Monticello hosted the OCIAA Division IV Championship on September 29, featuring seven local teams.

Golfers from Rockland, Monticello, Eldred, Sullivan West, Tri-Valley, Liberty and Fallsburg were divided into seven groups, with no golfers from the same school competing in the same group.

For the second consecutive year, Rockland emerged as the Division IV champion, posting a team score of 189. Monticello finished second at 215, followed by Eldred at 221, Sullivan West at 233, Tri-Valley at 242 and Liberty at 272.

Tri-Valley’s Bradley Kenney was the medalist of the tournament, shooting a 38 on the par-36 front nine. Rockland’s Gavin Thomas finished second, firing a 41, while Sullivan West’s Kevin Kubenik placed third with a 46.

Rockland’s depth helped secure the championship, with Ben Johnston and Liam Husson each shooting 47 and Logan Thomas adding a 54.

Monticello was led by Daniel Weyer and Jeremy Tuttle, who each carded a 49. Landin Raynor finished with a 53 and Ishaan Padhair shot 64 to round out the Panthers’ team score.

Eldred finished third behind Lucas Ryman’s 53 and Ethan Russel’s 55, while Sullivan West was led by Kubenik’s 46. Liberty’s Tyler Juron led the Redhawks with a 58. Fallsburg’s Stephon Harris finished with a 79.

“Stephon continues to work hard,” Fallsburg coach Pete Dworetsky said. “He’s always looking to get better and is an outstanding young man to coach.”

Monticello coach Chris Russo congratulated Rockland on repeating as champion while thanking those who helped make the tournament possible.

“Congratulations to Rockland on their 2nd straight Division Championship,” Russo said. “We needed to play at our best in order to win today, but unfortunately had our struggles on the course. It was a great day on the course and the kids seemed to have an enjoyable day. I would like to thank Tom Green and the staff at The Monster - the course is beautiful, and they treat the kids so well. We are so grateful to have the opportunity to play here.”

Sullivan West coach John Meyer also thanked the tournament’s hosts and recognized the day’s top finishers.

“Just wanted to thank Chris Russo for setting everything up for the division match and thanks to the Monster GC for having us,” Meyer said. “Congratulations to Rockland HS for winning the divisional tournament. Lastly congratulations to Bradley, Gavin, and Kevin for finishing 1,2,3 in the match.”
