To the editor:
I am writing with reference to the Roscoe Central School bell which I believe was last seen in the year 2009. While cleaning the basement, the janitor found it under the stairs.
Lynn Wachter, Spanish teacher at that time, who is now deceased, thought it would be a good idea for the seniors to ring the bell at every graduation to make it a tradition. I was told by past employees of Roscoe Central School that John Evans offered to have the bell cleaned up and sand blasted.
Every year in May, Lynn Wachter would ask John Evans if they would have the bell for graduation. Guess what, no bell.
Last year, at a board meeting, I asked John Evans where the bell was. I was told by John Evans that he was going to put it on display in the school lobby. To date there is no bell visible.
Graduation is coming fast and this will be the last year for Seniors to be graduating from Roscoe Central School, since the school will be merging with Livingston Manor Central School. For the Roscoe Central School Seniors to ring the bell at graduation would be a lasting memory since Roscoe Central School will no longer exist but will then be the Rockland Central School District.
I am a proud graduate of Roscoe Central School and feel the school bell is a part of me and fellow classmates. I along with other people, would like to know where the bell is.
