Seats Filling for D&H Canal Bus Tour

HIGH FALLS ­– Bus seats for the D&H Transportation Heritage Council’s (DHTHC) March 29 tour of Ulster County sites are quickly being claimed as the March 17 deadline closes in for reservations at $45 per person.

Participation is limited to 52 passengers. Guiding the trip will be DHTHC President Bill Merchant, who is the historian and curator for the D&H Canal Historical Society at 1315 NY-213 High Falls, where the tour will begin at 10 a.m. and end at approximately 4 p.m., with a self-pay lunch stop at Ricke Len’s restaurant in Napanoch.

These sites will be interpreted or visited as feasible: D&H Canal Locks 36 and 35 (Lewis Road); Ellenville’s Collector’s Office, Locks 31, 30, 26, 25, Little Stonykill Aqueduct, Tumbells’ Tannery at the Trout Brook; Lock 24 at Kerhonkson, the Aqueducts at Stonykill and Peterskill, Lock 21 and dry dock, tannery and brick kiln site; then free admission to the Five Locks Walk Museum, open until 5 p.m.

Send advance payment checks to “DHTHC” addressed to Treasurer Donna Durland at P.O. Box 102, Wurtsboro, NY 12790 or use the PayPal option through the “Donate Now” icon at www.dhthc.org for $45 plus the processing fee, please.

Copies of the newest chapter of the Council’s DVD series, “The Delaware & Hudson Canal Company and Gravity Railroad: Its History and Legacy: Spring Glen to High Falls” which follows this route will be offered for sale for $10.
