WARWICK–– Student athletes representing all seven Sullivan County schools competed in the Section IX Cross Country  Championships in Warwick. Season records have been accomplished, including many of the athletes recording personal best times. Sullivan West Coach Sean Reuss shared his thoughts after the meet. “All three athletes (Bryce, Giuseppe, and Gracyn) showcased outstanding grit and perseverance throughout the season. They committed to extra weekend training, stayed disciplined in their workouts. Our girls' team also finished 3rd, overall. Coach Bressler and I were happy to see them do well, all of our athletes ran great today. It’s a great day to be a Bulldog.”

Eldred Head Coach Lisa Marie Drewett said, “Eldred Cross Country remains to be tiny yet mighty,” “Overcoming many obstacles such as lacking a home course to practice on due to construction. Our girls team finished in 5th out of 14 teams, and our boys came in 7th out of 14th. Lilian Fisher broke  into the top 20 and two 8th graders Henry Scully and Aiden Smith, ran in their first Section 9 meet, finishing 22:15.3 and 22:15.9, respectively.

Our future looks bright as we had many PR’s and will now transition into the indoor track season.”

The Bears continue to dominate Class D and beyond.  “This is the first year the girls’ team has won the title since 2013, shared Coach Skylar Musa, adding, “They have now been ranked the #1 team in the state for three weeks in a row and will likely be named the team favorite to win the State title. Our boys’ team have now won 4 out of the last 5 years.”

Head Coach Danielle Halikias-Jannotti of the Fallsburg Comets shared, “Our athletes toughed it out on a very windy day. Some athletes hit personal records, but overall, athletes were persistent and tough in the last race of the season.”
