ShopRite supermarkets continues its tradition of community support by presenting a $5,000 donation to the Sullivan County Federation for the Homeless Veterans’ Food Pantry, marking a significant milestone in their 17th Annual Veterans’ Fundraising Campaign.
At a special event attended by local officials, such as Monticello Mayor Rochelle Massey and Town of Thompson Supervisor Bill Rieber, ShopRite of Monticello Store Manager, Tom Donahue, spoke passionately about the impact of the Federation’s work.
“The Federation does incredible work, and I’m honored to be part of a company that supports such an important agency,” Donahue stated.
The Sullivan County Federation for the Homeless provides crucial services to local veterans, including a weekly food pantry, emergency assistance for food-related crises, and financial aid for rent, mortgage and utility bills.
Donahue presented the check, which was humorously noted as too large to fit in anyone’s back pocket. The event also served as the kickoff for ShopRite’s 2025 Veterans Campaign.
In addition to the donation, Donahue expressed his deep pride in being part of a company that values community and veteran support.
“I just think they do tremendous work, and I’m so proud to be a part of a company that’s helping them out,” he said.
Their efforts go beyond basic needs, ensuring veterans receive special holiday boxes during Thanksgiving and Christmas and connecting them with a broad range of other essential services.
Donahue highlighted the organization’s significant impact over the past year, noting that the food pantry alone provided over 6,400 pantry bags, equating to more than 54,000 meals for veterans.
“It’s just incredible work and so needed,” he noted, receiving a round of applause from event attendees.
The ShopRite of Monticello has been actively involved in the Annual Veteran’s Fundraising Campaign since its inception. This year, the campaign ran from Memorial Day weekend through the first week of August, with funds raised benefiting local veteran organizations in the area. Among the recipients this year were the Orange County Veteran’s Food Pantry, Hudson Valley Honor Flight, My Brother Vinny, Vet to Vet and United for Troops, among others.
As part of the campaign, each ShopRite store nominates a local organization whose grassroots efforts directly support the community for a $5,000 donation.
