Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is fast approaching. We have the free turkey we received from ShopRite which I qualified for by spending the required amount for groceries. I am thinking back to another Thanksgiving when we had planned to go to the country to eat at my parents’ house in Callicoon Center. The day before we were to leave, our son, Michael, had swollen glands so I took him to the doctor thinking he might have mumps. The doctor explained to me that if he had mumps, the swelling would be farther back in the throat and he was able to make the trip since it was only swollen glands. However, the following morning, Michael rose with swelling as the doctor had described for mumps, so we had to change our plans. I called my parents to give them the sad news. They called us back to say they would come to our house with all the food and would also bring my Uncle Harold and Aunt Elly who had also been invited to my parents’ house. Michael would be confined to his room so as not to spread any unwanted germs. My uncle and aunt were a bit taken aback by it all, but everything turned out fine.
