If you’re reading this before 9 p.m. on Tuesday, November 3—it’s not too late! There’s still time to cast your ballot at the voting booth.

This year we have a big race in New York, the race for governor. Incumbent Democrat Kathy Hochul is running against Republican Bruce Blakeman, a county executive from Long Island.

Like most governor’s race, it is expected that much of upstate will lean red while New York City brings in the big blue votes, likely to secure Hochul’s win and second term as governor.

For those who don’t remember, Hochul became governor officially in 2021 after former Governor Andrew Cuomo resigned in August of 2021 amid accusations of multiple instances of sexual misconduct.

Just one year later, she won a full term for governor in the 2022 election against Republican nominee Lee Zeldin in the narrowest New York gubernatorial election since 1994.

Hochul, a longtime politician, is the first female governor of New York (and the first governor from Buffalo since Grover Cleveland in 1885).

Later Zeldin, a close ally of President Donald Trump, would become the administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency.

Although the polls are certainly not showing Blakeman in the lead, it could be possible that this election runs analogously to that one four years ago.

Aside from the governor’s race, every line on the ballot is an important one. Sullivan County residents will be voting for state comptroller, attorney general, congress representative, state senator, and other town races.

Your vote is your voice!
