TRI-VALLEY – The Tri-Valley Boys and Girls Indoor Track & Field teams made their school proud by securing the Division 5 Championship titles at West Point recently. This monumental victory highlights the dedication, hard work, and exceptional talent of the athletes and coaches alike.
Outstanding performances lead to Victory
Anna Furman and Van Furman were significant point scorers despite this only being their second meet back from their extended break after cross country. Both were state champions in cross country, with Van’s season including two national championship meets on the West Coast in Portland, OR, and San Diego, CA. Just starting to run again, they scored the most points out of any athletes on the team, leading Tri-Valley to a division championship. They are ramping up for the state championship meet on March 8th and Nationals on March 15th.
Kane Poje has been a dominant force in the weight throw, winning not only Section 9 meets but also major competitions in the Northeast. On January 5th, 2025, Kane triumphed at the Ocean Breeze Freedom Games with a throw of 61-05.25, making him the top sophomore weight thrower in the entire USA at that time. He continued his winning streak at the Refuel by Chocolate Milk Officials HOF Classic at the Armory on January 11th, 2025. Kane is expected to represent Tri-Valley at the state championships, currently ranking 5th in New York State, and has qualified for the New Balance National Championships in Boston, MA, on March 15th.

A historic Achievement
This is the fourth consecutive year that the Tri-Valley boys and girls teams have won the division, a testament to their consistent excellence and dominance in the sport. This championship win marks a significant milestone for Tri-Valley, showcasing the depth of talent and determination within the school’s athletic program. Coaches and athletes have worked tirelessly throughout the season, and this victory is a testament to their commitment. The school community celebrates this achievement, recognizing the efforts of each individual who contributed to this success.
Looking ahead
The teams are looking ahead to make a run at the sectional championship on February 7th. The TV girls have won the sectional championship six times before but not since 2012, and they finished second to Rondout Valley last year by 4 points. For the TV boys, they have only won the sectional title twice, with the most recent being 2023, and last year they finished second to Port Jervis.
As the Tri-Valley teams celebrate their division championship wins, they also set their sights on future competitions, aiming to build on this momentum and clean up areas of weakness. The triumph at West Point is not just a culmination of a season’s hard work but also a stepping stone for greater accomplishments ahead.
