On Saturday morning, runners and walkers took over Kenoza Lake for another successful Turtle Trot race. Held each summer, participants of all ages took part in the event that offered a 12-and-under race, a 10K run, a 5K run, and walk. The event drew in close to 120 participants, with race organizer April Rutledge pointing out that there are “a lot of new faces” this year.
The route wound through the scenic roads surrounding Kenoza Lake, offering participants rolling hills and quiet country views. Spectators lined portions of the route to cheer on runners as they made their way towards the finish line.
Following the race, participants gathered in the fire hall to enjoy refreshments, socialize, and celebrate individual accomplishments. Awards were presented to the top overall finishers as well as winners in several age divisions.
The event was organized by Rutledge in honor of her father, Doug Ackermann, and cousin Brenna Darling, both of whom had passed away after receiving cancer diagnoses. Proceeds benefit families affected by life-threatening illness.
The Turtle Trot is made possible each year through the efforts of volunteers, local sponsors, and organizers who work together to create a safe and enjoyable event.
