NARROWSBURG –  Solomiia Kobuta (Mia), the president of Philadelphia Regional Council of Ukrainian National Women’s League of America (UNWLA), will speak on present-day conditions in, and the history of Ukraine at the Sunday, May 4 service of the Upper Delaware Unitarian Fellowship (UDUUF), held in room 102 of the Narrowsburg Union at 7 Erie Avenue starting at 10:15am.

The UNWLA is a 100-year-old women’s charity based on Christian principles of providing care, education, and advocacy. Ukraine is a sovereign and independent, democratic, social, law-based state currently fighting for survival which became free from Soviet domination on August 24, 1991, but the roots of Ukrainian statehood stretch back over 1000 years.

A US citizen, Mia was born in Ukraine where she lived until age 18. She has been awarded a Medal for Dignity and Patriotism by the Ukrainian government for her voluntary efforts fighting disinformation spread by the aggressor and reminding the world that we have nothing more precious than the life we are given. At the May 4service, Mia will give a unique glimpse into the history of Ukraine and comment on today’s situation where Ukrainians once again must stand up to a foreign enemy for the right to self-identify and to exist. “Ukrainians today are not fighting just for their freedoms, but for the values of the world,” Mia said.

The UDUUF has met continuously in the Upper Delaware River Valley since July 30, 1987. The public is invited and all are welcome. For additional information, visit upperdelawareuu.org or call 845-252-6783. Those attending on Zoom may connect each week at https://zoom.us/j/9376301223.
