September 2 – Thank you to Nancy and her helpers from the Solstice and Ash Mystic Shoppe for another fantastic Summerween! Nancy also thanks the Merchants in Town, the Jeffersonville Fire Department and organizations that participated for helping to make over 100 kids very happy! It was great to see a town full of people strolling along, some in costumes, while the weather stayed sunny for us!
Congratulations to our Jeff Fire Department for coming home from the Hortonville Fire Department’s parade with two awards! One was for the oldest member in the line of march, Peter J. Cummings at 93 years young and still an active firefighter. The second was for the best appearing apparatus 30+ years older. Their #1 1921 REO Speedwagon is 105 years old, still running and pumping too! Good job!
The Small Town Country 4-H Club is hosting the Annual Live. Love. Serve 5K on Sunday, October 18 at 9 a.m. Registration is open now for ages 8-100. Run or walk a USTAF certified racecourse through the hamlet of Hortonville. Fees are $25 until September 30, $35 from October 1 until the morning of the race and $15 for 4-H youth. Our Western Sullivan Public Library is hosting the Bone Builders Workshop with the Cornell Cooperative Extension at the Jeffersonville Branch on Thursdays, September 10 to November 19 at 11 a.m. A program designed for women 65+ and men 75+ but is open to anyone. Led by Dr. Joy Mendelson. Bring a water bottle, floor mat or towel and your own 1-2 lb. weights. Please be sure to register – seats are limited. The Callicoon Kiwanis is hosting a Tricky Tray Basket Raffle on Saturday, September 26 at The Delaware Youth Center. Doors open at Noon with calling starting at 1 p.m. Every basket is worth $25 or more and gold ticket items are worth $75 or more! Refreshments will be available to purchase. Admission fee is $5 and includes cookies or brownies with a bottle of water. A sheet of 10 tickets is $10; Gold tickets are $5 a ticket or 5 tickets for $20.
Save the Date: The Sullivan County Conservation Club is holding their Conservation Club’s 2026 Youth Shoot on Sunday, September 27. A fun competition for area kids – open to the public and free to participate. The monarch butterflies passing through this month are considered the super generation, built for an incredible journey south. Their fuel matters. Save the garden cleanup for later leaving the milkweed plants, goldenrod, asters that have bloomed alone for a few more weeks. This Fall plant milkweed – next Spring, save the Monarchs!
