WARWICK– This past Saturday, student-athletes from nearly 20 schools ran what is regarded as one of the most challenging courses in Orange County at Sanfordville Elementary School. The second mile, the most brutal mile of the stretch, consists of 150-meter steep incline and an 80-meter wall at the 1 ¾ mile mark.

Sullivan County hopefuls braved the course. Anna Furman of Tri-Valley finished in the top spot in the varsity girl’s category with a blazing speed of 17:38, ahead of Olivia Heim of Monroe-Woodbury, who finished the course in 18:06. The Tri-Valley girls team finished in 5th place overall for the past two seasons, the highest OCIAA team finish in Tri-Valley’s history. The Section IX Championships are scheduled for Tuesday, November 3 at Mount Academy, and TV Coach Skylar Musa said, “The girls team is excited to defend their title!”

Monticello’s Baya Titus broke through the top 20 with a 16th-place finish in 19:38, a personal best for Titus, and the entire team set new PR’s.

In the boys varsity race, Sullivan West’s Giuseppe Gardner brought home a medal for securing a top-20 spot with a finishing time of 17 flat and teammate Bryce Bressler finished in 17:08. Every runner from the Eldred Yellowjackets shaved four to six minutes off their time at the championships for a strong finish!
