MAMAKATING – The Mamakating Environmental Education Center is full of fun activities for all ages in November:
Artist Residency: Sky Stitching by Audrey Bartow Sundays 10am-12pm
Naturalist and environmental artist Audrey Bartow holds weekly bird listening sessions, open to MEEC visitors, where they’ll document bird observations by knitting their colors into an ever-changing tapestry. Visitors are encouraged to sit with the artist while they work, help to observe birds, and check back in as the project progresses. The work will document bird visitation at MEEC over the course of one year, culminating in a reception to unveil the tapestry and discuss findings. Community members are asked to help donate yarn and knitted items to be recycled so that the piece has a low environmental footprint. Audrey tries to stay outside in order to experience what the birds are experiencing. Please dress accordingly. A campfire may be in order!

Raffle Tickets cost $20 each or 3 tickets for $50. Drawing is on December 5th. Your purchase helps support staff, animal care, trail upkeep, programing, and more. Friends of MEEC are upping their game this year. MEEC is in desperate need of staff, so we are starting a campaign to raise funds through grants, raffles, and higher end fundraising events. This campaign starts off with a beautifully framed close up of a red fox kit, valued at $150, donated by renowned wildlife photographer, Kevin Kreischer Photography. If you know his work, you know his photos are always crisp and intimate. Kevin will be present again at our artisan fair on December 5th, when the drawing for this gem will be held. In the meantime, it will be on display at MEEC, where you can purchase tickets. You can also go to our donate link on FriendsOfMEEC.org. Make sure you put Fox Kit Raffle in the memo, or it'll just be marked as a donation.
