FALLSBURG – On Monday evening, the Rockland Wolves girls’ basketball team were on the road to face off against the Fallsburg Comets. Rockland grabbed the first lead of the game when Kelsey Ryder of Rockland sank a three-pointer. The Wolves took a 7-0 lead before the Comets were able to get on the board scoring off a baseline drive. As the game went into the second quarter, the Wolves held on to a four-point lead, 10-6. The next eight minutes told much of the same story as both teams battled for control. After evening the score at 10 all, the Comets took a 12-10 lead, their first of the game. To open the third quarter, Fallsburg’s Paola Deras went coast to coast for an easy layup and immediately forced a turnover on the next play. The Comets’ lead grew to six points, but it didn’t last long. Rockland pounded the ball down low, closing in on Fallsburg, whose lead had been cut to two. The fourth quarter was too close to call, with both teams fighting to get a bucket on every possession, but at the buzzer, the game was even at 32. The Rockland Wolves managed to get by the Comets with a one-point advantage in overtime. The final score of the game was 36-35.
