The legendary Yardbirds, a musical force of nature since the 1960s, are back on the road, keeping alive the enduring legacy of one of rock’s most influential bands while expanding their music into new horizons.
Rooted in the blues, their amazing forays over the decades into jazz, folk, rock, pop, raga, improv, guitar feedback and, of course, the blues, is the stuff of legend and influence.
Their signature songs include timeless classics like For Your Love, Heart Full of Soul, Shapes of Things, I’m a Man, Over Under Sideways Down and Train Kept a Rollin’, amongst many others.
The band’s music has been a massive influence on countless bands over the years…their influence cannot be overstated.
Featuring founding member, drummer Jim McCarty, the Yardbirds dazzling guitar pyrotechnics, which in the band’s earlier days featured the talents of Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck and Jimmy Page, are still on display courtesy of lead guitarist Godfrey Townsend and guitarist/lead vocalist John Idan. Also included in the current lineup are bassist Kenny Aaronson (known for his work with Bob Dylan, Billy Idol and others) and Myke Scavone on vocals and blues harp.
The band was inducted into the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame in 1992.
The Yardbirds are performing in Bethel at the Bethel Woods Museum on April 5.
Jim McCarty is available for an advance interview. He’s a living history of 60s rock and beyond and has a ton of amazing stories to share with you. Please let me know if interested and I’ll be happy to arrange it.
The current band just recorded a new live album Mind the Gap which will be released soon. A special compilation featuring the original band recordings - The Yardbirds Psycho Daisies - The Complete B-Sides - was released in 2024.
Jim’s autobiography, Nobody Told Me, was released to great acclaim in 2018. Volume two of his memoirs, She Walks in Beauty, was released in 2021 and was also widely acclaimed.
