A new dove lands at the Domes

The Sullivan Catskills Visitors Association (SCVA) unveiled its seventy-first dove at Domes at Catskills in Swan Lake as part of its Dove Art Trail on Monday, January 8.

“We are thrilled to welcome a new addition to our beloved trail,” said Roberta Byron-Lockwood, CEO and President of the SCVA. “As our destination continues to expand and grow, it’s exciting to see the true Sullivan Catskills experience being celebrated.”

The dove was painted by local artist Keith Phillips. This is not his first contribution to the trail.

“Upon my first visit here I noticed three things,” said Phillips. “The beauty of the place, the tranquility of the place, but most importantly, the creativity of the place.”

“So when I was getting ideas to do this piece, I really wanted to incorporate those three aspects, but most importantly the creativity and what it feels like to actually be here and experience it.”

Attendees were also allowed to have a look inside one of the new glamping domes following the unveiling.

The Domes at Catskills are a Glamping (glamor camping) accommodation planned to open at the start of the summer.

Founded by Jerry Feeney, this resort surrounded by trees has each dome featuring a separate sitting area, kitchen, and bathroom for visitors to use. Every dome comes equipped with an outdoor wood-fired caldron for an authentically rustic experience, in addition to these facilities.

Glamping is the experience of combining the outdoors and natural surroundings of camping with the elegance and comforts of a hotel stay, which is becoming more and more popular as a way for travelers to experience nature up close without having to give up contemporary conveniences.

With its thoughtful facilities and well chosen decor, The Domes at Catskills elevates this concept to a whole new level. When visitors stay in these distinctive domes, they can get the best of both worlds instead of just a typical tent stay.

It’s not only about the lodging, though; the setting is very unique. Nestled amidst the woods, The Domes offer a peaceful and quiet environment for visitors to decompress and disengage from the daily grind. Additionally, visitors can simply take advantage of Swan Lake’s ideal position to discover everything that the stunning Catskills region has to offer.

As the dove trail continues to grow, each addition is a symbol of the distinct personality and allure of the Sullivan Catskills villages.

The SCVA hopes to have up to 80 revealed doves by this coming spring or summer, according to Lourdesa Hunt, Head of Business Development and Business Administrative Operations at the SCVA.

The Dove Art Trail was first established in 2019 as a part of the SCVA’s effort to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of Woodstock. Through the trail visitors can be more in-the-know about Sullivan County’s cultural significance and celebrate the artistic community within it.
