LIBERTY — The Sullivan County Soil & Water Conservation District, in collaboration with Cornell Cooperative Extension Sullivan County, recently showcased their inaugural Pumpkin Smash & 4-H Open House event.
The gathering attracted individuals and families from a wide selection of age groups, all eager to participate in a day filled with joy and excitement.
Attendees engaged in various activities including games that fostered friendly competition, crafts that encouraged creativity, and face painting that added a splash of color to the festivities.
The event also featured the taste of freshly made apple cider and donuts. Additionally, educational activities were incorporated to inform participants about important conservation efforts.
True to the name of the event, the pumpkin smashing emerged as the highlight of the day, captivating those present with its playful spirit.
“We collected 347.2 pounds of pumpkin to be composted, reducing greenhouse gas emissions while keeping nutrients and water out of landfills and giving them back to the earth instead,” said District Technician of the Sullivan County Soil & Water Conservation District.
“We thank all attendees for coming, and we hope to see you next year!”
