Alanis Morrisette performs at Bethel Woods

Posted

Last week, concertgoers packed the house at Bethel Woods Center for the Arts with two beloved 90s feminist rock bands. Shirley Manson of the Madison, Wisconsin formed band Garbage warmed up the audience by walking amongst the crowd to the tune of their 1995 hit "Stupid Girl” before returning to the stage. Manson expressed her gratitude to their fans before the main act, Alanis Morrisette, took to the stage.

With a lengthy list of accolades including five Juno awards and seven Grammy awards, Morrisette broke into fame early, holding the title of the youngest artist to win album of the year from 1996 until 2010 at twenty-one years old for her 1995 album Jagged Little Pill. While her present fanbase was made up mostly of those who lived through the 90s, many attendees were also from a younger generation who were not shy about singing along, proving that the lyrics to songs like "You Oughta Know" and "You Learn" have a universal message that still rings true to present day experiences twenty-seven years later. Morrisette ended the evening by thanking the crowd and repeating that sentiment in the lyrics of her song "Thank U" from her album Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie.

The North American portion of the tour will end on October 8th, with their Dana Point, CA show before continuing on to their European tour dates.
