Alfred Joseph De Simone passed away on Sunday, January 30, 2022, at his home in Monticello, NY surrounded by his family.  He was 93.

The son of the late Anthony De Simone Sr. and Adeline Lagomarsino DeSimone, he was born June 29, 1928, in East Harlem, New York. He was the widower of Clara DePace De Simone, who predeceased him on August 4, 1996.

Al first came to Monticello as a teenager while driving for the Intercity Bus Line with his brothers and his father. He was a member of the Teamsters Local Union #445. 

He went on to establish De Simone Bros. Horse Transportation with his brother Joe. As a racehorse owner himself throughout the years, he was an avid member of the Monticello Raceway / Horsemen's Association and its community, serving as a member and their President for many years. 

In his later years De Simone Bros. Horse Transportation focused on shipping hay into the Sullivan County area from the Finger Lakes region. He continued to hit the road with his brother Joe for many years and enjoyed every minute.

He is survived by his children, Anthony DeSimone, Denise DeSimone, Marie DeSimone (Charlie), Josie De Simone - Pratti (Paul), Joanne De Simone-Morena (Michael), and Ellie De Simone- Brooks; six grandchildren: Beth Tignor, Christine Kaempfe, Caroline Varner, Annette DeSimone, Sam Miller and Kristen Brooks; six great grandchildren: Emily and Anthony Tignor, Matthew Kaempfe, Ava Grace Jeffords, Ronan Azaria Miller and Wes Avery Miller; his brother: John DeSimone Sr. of Monticello; a sister: Angela Mesceda of Harrisburg, PA; and many nieces and nephews.  

In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by his parents, Anthony & Adeline; an infant son, Frank; his brothers, Pasquale (Pat), Anthony Jr (Junior), and Joseph; as well as his sister Maria and stepmother Peggy De Simone.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 5 from 1:00 to 3:00 pm at the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral Home, 401 Broadway in Monticello with a funeral service starting at 3 pm at the funeral home.  Burial will follow at St. Peter’s Cemetery in Monticello.
