Alton Distillery headed to foreclosure

BETHEL – Alton Distillery, which is currently closed, is going up for sale at a public auction on September 25 at 10:30 a.m. at the Sullivan County Courthouse.

The business, at 2037 Route 17B in Bethel, is located at the former Catskill Distilling Company, which sits across the road from Bethel Woods’ main entrance.

According to Kathleen Lara, Deputy County Treasurer, the distillery was included in the county’s foreclosure on April 30, but M&T Bank, who holds a mortgage on the subject premises, repurchased the property back from the county on June 30.

Marco Koshykar, from Whiteman Osterman & Hanna LLP, representing M&T Bank, declined to comment citing pending litigation.

The bank filed a complaint in Sullivan County Supreme Court against multiple individuals and parties, including Solomon Ellner, Pietro Bortolotti, Sachem Capital Group, SVG 26 LLC and the Sullivan County Industrial Development Agency (IDA).

Jen Flad, Executive Director of the IDA, told the Democrat, “The IDA owns certain items of equipment and leases them to SVG 26, LLC. These pieces of equipment are excluded from the sale. IDA has no other role or interest in the distillery.”

According to court documents, the mortgage payment of more than $3.3 million was due as of January 15.

Deputy Treasurer Lara noted that all delinquent taxes are paid to the county.
