LIVINGSTON MANOR — On Saturday, August 24 comedian and self described social justice warrior, Kristina Wong will present her work-in-progress entitled, Kristina Wong: #FoodBankInfluencer.

Preceded by a 5:30pm reception with the artist, the 7:00pm special performance at Catskill Art Space, 48 Main Street in Livingston Manor, New York will benefit the Sullivan County nonprofit, A Single Bite+Catskills Food Hub. The immersive experience will include a unique look at food banks, food pantries, local meal programs, a commentary on systems and distribution, and a treatise on food insecurity all wrapped up as a time based theater piece.

Peppered with Karaoke songs with her original lyrics, Wong provides a look at the role of food banks as a part of the American food system. “The unifying characteristic of my work is employing humor to explore difficult subjects”, according to Wong’s artist statement.

In preparation, beginning August 15 the humorist and social activist will immerse herself in a CAS-hosted art residency allowing her time and space to further develop the performance, explore regional food insecurity, or limited or uncertain access to adequate food, and engage in several community programs and activities in Livingston Manor and Sullivan County.

The #FoodBankInfluencer performance is presented in partnership with Catskill Art Space, The Dr. David M. Milch Foundation and En Garde Arts. Wong’s Sullivan County engagement will include leading a youth workshop with CAS Kids, the community performance and an invitation-only reception (including performance) to benefit the Sullivan County nonprofit A Single Bite and their mission to feed and educate children and their families with real, local food.
