SULLIVAN COUNTY — The Section IX Chapter of the Basketball Coaches Association of New York (BCANY) recently announced their 2023-24 Section IX All-Star team.
The names were broken up by Classes, from AAA down to the combined C and D classes.
For players to be selected to the All-Star team, the head coach must be a member of the Association. Coaches were asked to nominate players from their own team to be voted on in a ballot format.
Todd Rose, BCANY Past President said, “It is important to recognize the accomplishments of players and coaches for their hard work and talent. These awards are special because they come from the coaches across the section. The players named to the All-BCANY team and those that are selected for other awards have made an impact on the opposing coaches. I would like to congratulate all of our winners.”
Monticello had two All-Stars in AA. Brothers Christian and Judah Brown were selected, and their impact on both sides of the court was evident all season long.
Liberty Point Guard Riley Totten was selected to the A All-Star team. Totten was a lethal shooter for the RedHawks, and his ability to space the floor and connect from range opened the floor for his teammates.
In Class B, Fallsburg’s Isaiah Young earned a spot on the All-Star team. Another facilitating PG, Young was a key contributor for the Comets throughout the season. Sullivan West’s Evan Ebert, a shooting guard with an affinity for shooting three pointers, was also named to the Class B team.
There were four Sullivan County athletes named to the C/D All-Star team, two from Eldred and two from Livingston Manor.
Trai Kaufmann and James Deyermond were named from Eldred, while brothers Aiden and Ben Johnston earned the nod from Livingston Manor.
Along with the All-Star players, Livingston Manor Coach Charlie Hicks was named as the C/D Coach of the Year. It was the first time that Roscoe and Livingston Manor combined for a Varsity Boys Basketball season, and Coach Hicks was able to get the team acclimated quickly to reach the post-season.
