BETHEL — The Beach Boys will not perform at Bethel Woods Center for the Arts on Friday, but the venue’s 20th anniversary celebration will continue with free admission, live music, family activities and fireworks.

Susan Russ, senior director of public relations at Bethel Woods, said the band postponed a portion of its tour though did not provide details about the reason for the cancellation.

“While we were disappointed that The Beach Boys postponed their tour, we wish them all the best as they take time to recharge,” Russ said.

All Beach Boys tickets, parking purchases and chair rentals will be refunded automatically.

The anniversary celebration will continue as planned, opening at 2 p.m. Friday, and admission will be free throughout the day. Bethel Woods is asking attendees to register in advance so the venue can estimate attendance. Guests can register for the event at www.bethelwoodscenter.org/freetickets.

Herman’s Hermits starring Peter Noone will perform on the Horizon Stage at 8 p.m. It will be the group’s first performance at the historic site.

“We are very excited to welcome Herman’s Hermits starring Peter Noone to the Horizon Stage as part of the day’s festivities,” Russ said. “It is their first time performing at the site, and we have long wanted them to play here.”

Music on the Horizon Stage will begin at 2:15 p.m. with Jake Nielsen from the Daniel’s Music Foundation Series, followed by the Chris Raabe Band at 3:15 p.m., the Bethel Woods Rock Camp Ambassadors Band at 4:30 p.m., Julian Giaimo at 5:15 p.m., Remember Jones at 6:30 p.m. and Herman’s Hermits starring Peter Noone at 8 p.m.

The Community Stage will feature Sebastian Conklin at 3 p.m., Bella Como at 4:15 p.m., Carmine Gontz at 5 p.m., the Monticello Jazz Band at 6 p.m. and vinyl turntablist Mara at 7:30 p.m.

The celebration will also include free crafts, a free surf simulator and vendors. Fireworks will close the evening.

The Museum at Bethel Woods will offer free admission from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Car camping spaces will be available for $20.

Bethel Woods is encouraging visitors to arrive when the gates open to support the earlier performers and receive anniversary giveaways.

The first 100 people through the gates will receive beach towels, the next 100 will receive bucket hats and the following 100 will receive water bottles. Beach balls and sunglasses will also be available for other early arrivals.

The venue is also marking its anniversary by decorating displays along the Sullivan Catskills Dove Trail.

“Twenty years ago, Bethel Woods was created as a place where music, community, and memories come together,” Russ said. “We look forward to celebrating this milestone with the community on July 24.”
