CALLICOON – The New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) announced that up to six scheduled 24-hour bridge closures of the Callicoon/Damascus Bridge will occur throughout the end of summer and into next year, with the first one expected to take place the last week of July.
The closures will happen as crews work to replace the existing concrete bridge deck. Digital signs will be placed 14 days prior to each closure, notifying travelers of the upcoming closure.
During closures, traffic crossing between New York and Pennsylvania will be directed to use NY Route 17B, Sullivan County Route 114, PA Route 371, PA Route 191 and PA Route 1016/Callicoon Road.
Pedestrian and bicycle traffic will be allowed to cross the bridge while it is closed to vehicular traffic. Emergency vehicles will be allowed to cross the bridge at a reduced speed. Flaggers will be stationed at each end of the bridge to assist emergency vehicles during the 24-hour closures.
Nighttime or weekend work is not anticipated, according to NYSDOT, and the schedule is weather and resource dependent.
Construction began on the Callicoon Bridge in June of 2024, and completion is expected in August 2027. There will continue to be single-lane closures during the work.
