CALLICOON – Project partners Callicoon Depot Inc., the Callicoon Business Association and the Upper Delaware Scenic Byway announce the next public town hall meeting to discuss progress, provide updates and gather valuable community feedback on the highly anticipated adaptive reuse project at the Callicoon Train Depot.
The event will take place on May 6 from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Delaware Youth Center in the Hamlet of Callicoon.
Tim Bruno, General Manager of WJFF Radio Catskill, will once again be facilitating the event. Tim’s experience and expertise in moderating thoughtful discussions promises to create a meaningful and inclusive dialogue.
The project aims to restore and transform the historic Callicoon Train Depot into a dynamic community asset.
Participants will have an opportunity to offer their insights and suggestions directly to the project team in shaping the future of the Callicoon Depot.
The project partners are committed to creating a space that will not only house the Upper Delaware Scenic Byway Visitor Center, but also promote the region and its economic development, serve as a versatile community hub for cultural, artistic, civic and educational activities, all while fostering a sense of community and regional pride.
A panel of project partners will be present to provide expert insights and answer questions:
• Darko Hreljanovic, President of Callicoon Depot Inc., Development & Programming partner, will share details of the restoration process and timeline for the activation of the train depot.
• Thong Keokham, President of the Callicoon Business Association, will outline the overall project goals and its significance as it relates to local businesses and the community.
• Rosie DeCristofaro, Vice-Chair of the Upper Delaware Scenic Byway, will discuss the importance of the organization having a dedicated Visitor Center and the collaborative efforts that have made this project a reality.
Together, the project partners will provide updated information about the project. A contract was signed in early April with the firm Bade Stageberg Cox Architects to begin work on renovating the interior of the depot. The scope of the contract includes design drawings and construction documents for Phase 1 of the project, which includes renovation of all interior spaces of the depot except the former freight room. An updated site plan will also be prepared. The architect’s work is anticipated to be completed by June 30, and construction is expected to begin later this year.
Funding for the architects and the Phase 1 building renovations will be funded through grants from Sullivan 180 and the Dormitory Authority of the State of New York (DASNY), respectively.
Callicoon Depot Inc. has submitted a grant request to Norfolk Southern Railroad to repair and repaint the depot exterior.
