Carolyn “Kelly” Desmond of Twin Cedars Assisted Living Home of Shohola, PA; a long term resident of Claryville, NY entered into rest on Monday, November 20th, 2023. She was 98.

The daughter of Lena and Willard DeLong, she was born December 15th, 1924 in Findlay, Ohio.  

Kelly graduated from Middlebury College in Vermont and received her Masters Degree from Columbia University in New York City. She became a math teacher at Nyack High School after her three children became old enough. After she retired she and her husband Bill moved to Claryville.

She became chairperson at the Neversink Town Planning Board and became president of the local chapters of AAUW and AARP.

She skied until she was 92 and would not have quit then, but she fell and broke her hip while getting her gear ready to go skiing with her son and granddaughter. She won a bunch of NASTAR medals and even made the best in NY list for the 93-94 and 94-95 seasons. She was also a longtime member of the Sullivan Striders.

She is survived by her son Lynn Desmond and his wife Yoo Mi, her granddaughters Karen Anne Desmond, Blair Oliver, Sara Desmond and her husband Cory Mansfield, and Kelly Hoyt and her husband David.  She is also survived by her four great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband of 58 years William Desmond, her two daughters Karen May Desmond and Holly Desmond West and her 2 sisters Mimi Ramsdell and Kay Thompson.

As per her request her family will handle her eternal rest privately.
