Concert for Port Jervis Warming Station

PORT JERVIS – The Tri-State Interfaith Council has been busy getting things ready for the ninth season of the Port Jervis Warming Station.  The warming station was launched in 2016 on December 1 and ran through March 31.

This past winter season the warming station opened a bit earlier and stayed open a bit later, providing much needed overnight accommodation for 82 different guests each year, with a total of 1671 overnight stays. More overnight volunteers are needed to help staff the program; the Council is looking to train new ones for the upcoming season.

Many other volunteers offered a hot evening meal each night the station was open. Volunteers are always welcome and can sign up at https://mealtrain.com/m7y677. Training on site is available.

The Tri-State Interfaith Council is working on raising funds to make sure that the warming station can again be run safely and efficiently for everyone. As one means of helping the Council reach their goal, a concert will be presented at First Presbyterian Church, 60 Sussex Street, Port Jervis on Friday, November 8 at 7:00 PM. The concert is sponsored by the Four Seasons Chorale and will also feature other local musical groups, including DVHS & PJHS choral groups, New Life Youth Choir and special guest, Maxwell Kofi Donkor.

A free will offering will benefit the warming station. If you’d like to donate directly to the warming station, checks may be made payable to First Presbyterian Church with “Warming Station” in the memo line and mailed to First Presbyterian Church, Attn: Warming Station, 60 Sussex Street, Port Jervis.

For more information on the concert, contact Kathy Brink at 570-430-1755.  For more information on the warming station, contact Jack Austin at 845-649-8720 or at jfaustin@frontier.com, or  warmingstationpj@gmail.com.
