BETHEL — Sullivan County and Archtop Fiber are celebrating the launch of the $29.9 million ConnectALL-funded broadband project with a press conference on Thursday, June 12 at 1:30 p.m. at the Bethel Woods Market Shed, 200 Hurd Road, Bethel, overlooking the historic site of the 1969 Woodstock Festival. The broadband project will provide a majority of Sullivan County with both wired and wireless high-speed Internet service by the end of 2026 at a price below regional averages.
“This award represents the largest grant Sullivan County has ever received for a single project,” said County Manager Joshua Potosek.
This project is made possible by the partnership between Sullivan County and Archtop Fiber, based in Kingston, NY, to serve over 22,000 locations. Sullivan County will own the infrastructure and Archtop Fiber and Hudson Valley Wireless will serve as internet service providers. The County will build 253 miles of fiber and one new communication tower, in addition to 11 towers it already owns, extending broadband service to unserved locations.
Commissioner of Information Technology Services (ITS) Lorne Green, who initiated the project, said, “This is an important investment in Sullivan County’s future and a transformative first step toward a goal of one hundred percent coverage, new opportunities and growth for our community in the decades ahead.”
