WURTSBORO — A 66-year-old male has died after being exposed to carbon monoxide due to a gas leak at a home on Gumaer Falls Rd. in Wurtsboro.
According to New York State Police Trooper Steven Nevel, Troopers from the Wurtsboro barracks responded to the home for a reported gas leak with three affected victims.
A preliminary investigation of the incident revealed that the three victims were exposed to carbon monoxide with varying degrees of exposure.
Two of the victims were identified as 55-year-old Baoli Xu and 63-year-old Haijun Wang, both of Wurtsoro.
The identity of the 66-year-old victim from Flushing, a neighborhood in Queens, NYC, who succumbed to the exposure and was pronounced deceased at the scene, is being withheld pending family notification.
According to Nevel, Xu and Wang were located unconscious within the building and removed. Wurtsboro EMS and State Troopers performed lifesaving actions on both victims.
Nevel said that Xu was airlifted to Westchester Medical Center while Wang was transported to Ellenville Hospital, and both victims are in stable condition.
“Wurtsboro Fire Department disconnected fuel sources and were able to clear the building and prevent further exposure,” Nevel said. “The incident is still under investigation.”
