CALLICOON – The Sullivan County Democrat announced Isabel Braverman as its new editor, beginning today, July 8. She takes the reins as outgoing editor Derek Kirk moves on to earn his Masters degree in communications.

Braverman returns to the newspaper, having previously worked as a staff reporter from 2018 to 2021.

“We are delighted that Isabel has returned to join our very talented editorial team,” Sullivan County Democrat Publisher Fred Stabbert III said. “Isabel brings a vast knowledge of the county, its residents and many organizations with her.

“Her experience and dedication to her craft will be an asset not only to our team but will enhance our reporting and coverage of many important issues throughout the county,” Stabbert said.

Braverman received a Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism from Ithaca College in 2012 and came home to begin her journalism career at The River Reporter.

“Local newspapers are the lifeline of small communities across the world, and that is especially true here,” Braverman stated. “I am looking forward to working at the Democrat once again.”

Braverman also has experience in communications, having worked as the Brand and Communications Manager at the Sullivan Catskills Visitors Association in Liberty, collaborating closely with businesses and organizations across the county.

She also worked on the One Small Step project with Radio Catskill, having a chance to facilitate conversations among local residents who have different political views, creating special segments for broadcast.

She lives in Narrowsburg with her husband, Tim, and their daughter Maggie.
