WEST POINT – The Tri-Valley Boys and Girls Indoor Track and Field teams once again proved themselves, with both capturing OCIAA Division 6 Championships last Saturday at the Gillis Field House at West Point. It marked the fifth consecutive year that each program has earned a divisional title.
What makes the streak even more impressive is that it spans multiple divisions. After winning OCIAA Division 5 last season, Tri-Valley returned to Division 6 this year and reclaimed the title, matching championships won in Division 6 for the three seasons before last year’s move.
The girls’ team secured the championship in dramatic fashion, edging out Burke Catholic for the top spot by a score of 156–154 in a tightly contested meet where every event and every point mattered. The narrow margin highlighted the team’s depth, with athletes contributing across sprints, distance, jumps, throws, and relays to seal the victory.
Several Tri-Valley athletes earned individual division championships, including Anna Furman, who won the 3000m, 1500m, and 1000m, and Logan Weyant, who captured titles in the 55-meter hurdles, triple jump, and pole vault. Kane Poje claimed division titles in both the shot put and weight throw, while additional champions included Angelina Hinkley (1500m racewalk and 4x800 relay), Danial Bashir (high jump), JoHanna Clarke (weight throw), and Savannah Chaboty (pole vault).
Both the boys’ and girls’ 4x800 relay teams also earned division titles. The boys’ relay team featured Brady Knight, Liam Morey, Aaron Edwards, and Lorenzo Haffner, while the girls’ relay team included Kenzie Krier, Mia Murphy, Emma Richardson, and Angelina Hinkley.
The championship meet also saw two school records fall. Poje reset the shot put record with a throw of 60 feet, 1 inch, and Weyant set a new triple jump record at 40 feet, 4.75 inches. Poje’s mark also places him among the elite throwers in the state, as he is now one of only two boys in New York to surpass 60 feet in the shot put during the current indoor season.
Next up is the sectional championship for Tri-Valley today, Friday, January 30. The boys will look to defend their title from last year without standout thrower Kane Poje, who will be competing in the prestigious Millrose Games that day, while the girls will look to win a sectional title for the first time since 2012.
