Enhancing our visibility standards

The Sullivan Catskills Visitors Association is diligently enhancing the visibility of travel opportunities within the Sullivan Catskills. Amidst an unprecedented boom in the tourism industry surpassing pre-pandemic levels, the demand for travel has significantly increased. The SCVA is strategically positioning the region as a premier destination for group excursions, leisure getaways, and professional events and meetings. Located just 90 minutes from Manhattan, our destination offers an ideal mix of business and leisure opportunities for adventure seekers. Efforts are underway to tap into new markets as well as to re-engage with existing ones, broadening the area’s appeal.

Since the beginning of the year, the SCVA has participated in six consumer exhibitions shows specializing in travel, golf and fishing. Shows took place in New York City, New Jersey and Philadelphia and two travel trade shows, in Nashville and New York City respectfully, that focused on group travel and meetings and conferences. The SCVA took advantage of these exhibitions and marketplaces to showcase the Sullivan Catskills collectively to nearly 80,000 attendees and extending its reach to over 100 new markets.

However, trade shows represent just one avenue for audience engagement. The SCVA also leverages OTT and TV commercials, places promotions in travel trade magazines, and collaborates with travel journalists among other marketing activities. In partnership with its PR firm, since late January 2024, the SCVA has successfully garnered coverage in prestigious outlets such as Condé Nast Traveler, Maxim, Elle, Fox News, NY Post, and facilitated features by esteemed writers from the Family Travel Forum like Kyle McCarthy and Dan Koday, known for their contributions to major publications like Travel + Leisure, AFAR, Robb Report, Forbes, PureWow, and others.

Looking ahead to March, the SCVA is gearing up for the Select Travel Marketplace in Buffalo where, along with New York State Division of Tourism (ILNY) and twenty New York State Convention and Visitors Bureaus, they will feature the Sullivan Catskills as a group travel destination. The SCVA team is also busy preparing for its Spring Market at Liberty Mall on March 9th from 11 to 5, with over 50 vendors, aiming to surpass the attendance of the winter market, which attracted just over 1,000 visitors. Additionally, plans are in motion for this year’s Catskill Cuisine this May 10, 11, and 12, promising more exciting prospects for the region. Tickets for this event will be on sale by early March.

The SCVA understands the importance of continually evolving and adapting to meet the needs of travelers. As such, it is constantly exploring new ways to enhance the visitor experience, improve accessibility, and promote sustainable tourism practices. With its beautiful natural landscapes, rich culture, and endless opportunities for adventure, the Sullivan Catskills truly has something for every traveler to enjoy.
