Fallsburg holds Reorg Meeting

FALLBSURG — The Fallsburg Town Board met on January 7 for its annual reorganizational meeting. Town Supervisor Michael Bensimon opened the meeting with a moment of silence for former President Jimmy Carter and victims of the recent attack in New Orleans.

Bensimon announced that Fallsburg received $10 million from the DEC for the South Fallsburg Wastewater Treatment Plant project. The town also received a grant through the Climate Smart Communities program for a culvert replacement project.

 

County Update

Sullivan County District 7 Legislator Joe Perrello addressed concerns about a proposed landfill near Fallsburg’s northern border. He requested the Town Board’s support in opposing the project and suggested they consider passing a resolution against it in the near future. He also mentioned a study on building a sports event center in Sullivan County.

 

Board Appointments

Art Rosenshein was reappointed as Chairman of the Planning Board for a one-year term, ensuring leadership continuity in town planning initiatives. Irv Newmark will continue to serve on the Planning Board for a five-year term, while Mike Weber and Moshe Kish joined as alternate members, each for five-year terms.

On the Zoning Board, Rabbi Lawrence Zierler was reappointed as Chairman of the Zoning Board of Appeals for a one-year term, and Eli Lederman was appointed to the board for a five-year term.

Richard Baum was reappointed as Town Attorney, Bruce Perlmutter as Assistant Attorney, and Dylan Harris as Special Counsel. Kenneth Ellsworth continues as Town Engineer, and Brendan Pavese will serve another term as Chief of Police. Scott DuBois will maintain his role as Town Comptroller.

Joanne Gerow was reappointed as Animal Control Officer, and Tracey Lesczynski and Thalia Vargas were confirmed as Justice Court Clerks. Gordon Gilbert was reappointed as Architectural Review Consultant.

 

Public Hearings 

The town announced public hearings for January 21 on amendments to the zoning code and sewer law.
