ROCK HILL — Two teenagers were struck and killed by a car on Glen Wild Road on Sunday. At approximately 3:15 p.m., State Police out of the Wurtsboro barracks responded to the scene.

A preliminary investigation revealed a 2018 Hyundai Elantra, operated by Isaac Kantrowitz, age 86 of Woodridge, NY, was traveling southbound on Glen Wild Road when he struck two pedestrians walking southbound. Kantrowitz is a retired Fallsburg town justice.

The pedestrians were pronounced deceased at the scene and later identified as Justin Finkel, age 14 and Devin Zeininger, age 16, both from the Town of Thompson. A third youth was injured.

Rock Hill EMS responded to the scene to assist. This is an ongoing investigation. State Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the accident to contact the State Police at Wurtsboro at 845-888-2681 and reference SJS# 8949583.

The two boys were a Monticello High School student and a former Robert J. Kaiser Middle School student.

In a statement released on Sunday, Monticello Central School District Superintendent Tammy Mangus said, “The district is working with Sullivan County BOCES and will have a support team of social workers and school psychologists available at both Monticello High School and RJK Middle School to help our students deal with this tremendous tragedy. It is natural for students to display a variety of emotions as they cope with their grief. Always know that parents as well as students may contact the district if they are in need of support.

When an event of this magnitude touches our community, it affects us all.

Our condolences and thoughts go out to the families of these students and their friends.”

A GoFundMe was started to raise money for the family of Zeininger. You can donate at www.gofundme.com/support-the-zeininger-family.
