First responders fall short to RCS Staff in fundraiser game

ROSCOE — Monday night marked the first annual First Responders vs RCS/LMCS Faculty and Staff Basketball Game. The event, a fundraiser for the Class of 2027, was a great time for everyone involved.

For many of the players that took the court on Monday evening, it was their first time playing organized basketball in years. Volunteer referees Nate Juron (Co-Advisor for the Class of 2027) and Dave Eggleton (Athletic Director for both Roscoe and Manor) called the game.

Starting off the night, the teams battled in a fierce back-and-forth competition, with the score staying within a few points for much of the first half.

In the third quarter, however, the Staff were able to string some possessions together to take a 13 point lead into the fourth quarter.

After some offensive struggles in the third, the First Responders started the fourth quarter off hot, hitting back-to-back-to-back threes to bring the score within four points as they trailed 34-30. From there, however, the Staff managed to end the game on a 10-3 run to take the 44-33 victory in front of a roaring student section.

“The class thanks the first responders and staff members who volunteered to play, their families and friends who helped with concessions and sold tickets, and for everyone for coming out to support the class,” Co-Advisor Nate Juron said. “It was great to have the gymnasium filled and to hear the cheering from the stands. Congratulations to the faculty and staff on your victory! We can’t wait to see you all at next year’s game!”
