Founders Day draws a crowd

It was a sunny and hot day for attendees at the Wurtsboro Founders Day Fair on July 9. The annual fair was organized by the Wurtsboro Board of Trade, who actively organizes events and supports businesses in the Village of Wurtsboro.

This year, the Board of Trade reported that the fair was full for vendors and featured live music, games, food, raffles and a demonstration of a vehicle extrication at the old firehouse by the Wurtsboro Fire Department.

Many vendors came out offering their products and services like local made art and baked goods, insurances, clothing, locally made honey and soaps, and local food trucks or restaurants.

In addition, the town board held a booth for residents to ask questions or voice concerns to the board. Since the town board cannot meet privately at one time due to open meeting laws, the town board staggered their participation. Town Supervisor Mike Robbins and Councilman Peter Goodman started the fair off at the booth followed by Councilmen Gary Forthoffer and Matt Mordas.

Former Town Supervisor Janet Lybolt and her husband Dave were also active at the fair. Lybolt led the Mamakating Democratic Committee booth, and Dave Lybolt participated in the dunk tank for the Emma Chase PTO who collaborated with Sullivan House Bar & Grill for this event.

Assemblywoman Aileen Gunther also enjoyed the fair and took pictures with many of the vendors including the Mamakating Democrats, the Mamakating Environmental Education Center (MEEC), the fire department, Fidelis, the Center for Discovery, and T.A.R.A.

The Wurtsboro Board of Trade thanked everyone for a successful event with a special thanks to their lead sponsors, Jeff Bank and Orange and Rockland.

“We couldn't have done it without the support of so many ... Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office, New York State Troopers, Village of Wurtsboro, Town of Mamakating Highway Department, Thompson Sanitation, VanInwegen-Kenny Funeral Home, Wurtsboro Fire Company, Boy Scout Troop #101, Cub Scout Troop #101, Kirby Tree Service, Fisher & Kean, Frank Coviello, Rebekah Pavlik, Karrie & Mike Caudy, The "A" Team (you know who you are), Chase Elementary School, Chase PTO, Mamakating Little League, the assorted vendors who helped to make the day special, all who came out to attend, and all of our wonderful members who participated and sponsored!” they wrote on Facebook.
