Golf Etiquette

This week I’d like to talk about Golf Etiquette. Since the pandemic there are many new golfers playing at our local courses.

Many of these new golfers, through no fault of their own, don’t understand how to get around the course. What I mean by that is what experienced golfers take for granted.

Where to park the carts, where not to drive the carts, how to fix a ball mark, rake bunkers and replace divots. Most courses have a starter who sends players to the first tee and explains the rules of the day.

If it’s cart path only that day that means the carts are not allowed off the path. Most likely it’s wet and the course doesn’t want the tires spinning and making ruts on the grass.

If the rule of the day is the 90-degree rule, that means you drive on the path till you reach parallel to your ball then at a 90-degree angle drive to your ball. Never at any time go near the tee boxes or greens with a cart.

As far as fixing ball marks or dents on the green your shot made when landing, use a tee or a ball mark fixer. You can purchase one at most golf shops.

I would go to You Tube to look at how the proper way to fix ball marks is done. There is a proper way.

Same with raking bunkers. Too many times I see players just being lazy and not raking their bunkers shots. That’s the etiquette.

Rake your way out with the rakes that the course leaves by the bunkers. You don’t want to leave your footprints in the bunker.

Please be mindful of others playing behind you. Rake and smooth out the sand where you just hit from.
