SWAN LAKE – On Tuesday, Gov. Kathy Hochul visited the Hasidic community Kiryas Skver for a ribbon cutting celebration attended by Town of Bethel officials and members of the Kiryas Skver community.
The residential development and school is located off of Route 55 in the Town of Bethel near the Liberty border.
According to Bethel Supervisor Dan Sturm, the ribbon cutting was celebrating the completion of around 50-60 units, with more units set to be added, and people moving in.
Sturm said the project began in 2005 and, after some delays, is now coming to completion.
“It’s good to see it is finally being built and it’s a good-looking development,” Sturm said.
He said the property developers “went through all the processes that they had to” with the town board and planning board and that it is a taxable property.
Sturm said as the project was being built the town installed an agreement so that every unit built would contribute up to $600 to the highway department, resulting in over $75,000 that the town has received, and a “park land fee” of $250 for every unit, resulting in over $45,000 to the town.
Attempts to reach Gov. Hochul for comment were not returned by presstime.
