HIGHLAND — The Town of Highland will hold a public hearing on its draft Comprehensive Plan on Tuesday, Aug. 11 at 6 p.m., following more than two years of work by town officials, Planning Board members, staff and community volunteers.
The location of the hearing will be announced on the town’s website and Facebook page, as the town hall is currently undergoing renovations and may or may not be ready in time for the meeting. The draft plan will also be made available for public review before the hearing.
During the July town board meeting, Supervisor John Pizzolato said the board received the latest draft of the plan, marking a major milestone in the planning process.
Pizzolato said only a handful of updates remain, including geology information from Sullivan County, revisions to land use and other technical edits. He noted that comprehensive plans are intended to be living documents that can be changed.
“As new issues come up, the town can continue to update the plan,” he said, noting that emerging topics such as data centers became a major issue while the committee was already working on the document.
The committee was chaired by retired Sullivan County planner Carol Roig and included representatives from the town board, planning board, town staff and community members. Officials also thanked the Eldred Central School District for providing meeting space during the planning process.
A comprehensive plan serves as the town’s long-term policy guide for future land use, development, infrastructure and conservation decisions.
