To the editor:
When is the “Here and There Beyond the News” column going to get real? Much like the earlier complaint from a reader when NFL players kneeled during the playing of the National Anthem, Mr. Townsend’s ire is aimed at a women’s basketball team that stayed off the court while the Anthem was playing (print April 12).
Yet, to date I haven’t read one word from him bemoaning the instigators, traitors and violent insurrectionists, from Trump, his cohorts, and a significant number of GOP congressional officeholders. Not one word about the apparent contempt that some GOP members of the county legislature and other officeholders hold for their constituents. Not one iota about GOP sponsored voter suppression laws enacted in Republican-controlled states.
Where was his outrage as Republican senators rudely and crudely tried to spoil the nomination of a Black woman to the Supreme Court? I guess he saw no disrespect toward our country in that regard. I can’t criticize him when he writes glowingly about gun ownership and sports—two subjects I have little interest in. But when he implies that individuals who peacefully demonstrate for social justice are un-American, I must speak out.
Obviously, Mr. Townsend is bursting with nationalistic pride—too bad he hasn’t a clue, or could care less about what the United States stands for.

Where was disdain with the democrats on their cruel way of questioning an nominee for SCOTUS a few years ago?
Where's your outrage of when democrat's like Maxine Waters pushed for the first family and adm to be mobbed by people?
You have all too many times attacked Pasquale and anyone else that is progun with your anti-gun crap ehr opinion.
