CALLICOON – Giving was in the air yesterday morning as Interfaith Outreach United (I.O.U.) held their annual Thanksgiving Basket Giveaway at the Delaware Youth Center in Callicoon.

With a grand total of 78 turkeys donated by the Callicoon Kiwanis Club, the event was able to feed Thanksgiving dinner to 78 families, all within a 15-mile radius of Callicoon.

The feasting didn’t involve just turkeys, families were also able to receive canned groceries and goods as well as Thanksgiving side dishes and desserts like blueberry and apple pie.

A non-sectarian organization 501(c)(3), I.O.U. extends their helping hand to the thrift store as a means to improve the standard of living in their served community. These activities range from their Thanksgiving basket giveaway and their toy exchange.

Additionally, they also provide the community with essential services and goods like gasoline, rent and food to those in need. They also inform religious congregations about community resources and organize community outreach.

Toys for those in need

Speaking of toys, next up on the calendar is their Annual Holiday Toy Giveaway on Saturday December 13 also for families in need, with pickup occurring between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.

An event for kids up to 17 years old, sign-ups are happening up until December 10 at their 37 Main Street Thrift Shop location.
