CALLICOON — On Tuesday, November 26, the Delaware Youth Center, located at 8 Creamery Road in Callicoon, hosted the annual Thanksgiving Basket Giveaway organized by Interfaith Outreach United (I.O.U.).
With 59 turkeys available, the event helped serve Thanksgiving dinner to 59 local families, serving a total of 244 people.
Families received a box of canned groceries and traditional Thanksgiving side dishes and “fixins” in addition to the turkeys.
The non-sectarian 501(c)(3) I.O.U. provides inexpensive items at the thrift store to improve the standard of living in the community it serves.
These include providing families with Thanksgiving food baskets and children with Christmas presents, providing essential goods and services like food, gasoline, and rent to those in need, informing our religious congregations about community resources, and organizing community outreach.
I.O.U dutifully serves families in need within a 15-mile radius of Callicoon.
I.O.U. Secretary Sharon Schroeder stated that they will also be holding their annual Toy Exchange come December 14th.
To participate, you are encouraged to call (845) 887-5919 and participants must sign up by December 10 at the Main Street Thrift Shop.
