Joan A. Cheh (Asthalter) of Forestburgh, NY, passed away Wednesday, October 4, 2023 at her home.  She was 77.

The daughter of the late George J. and Pearl Asthalter (Hotchkin), she was born December 6, 1945 in Liberty, NY.

Joan graduated Liberty High School in 1964 and then attended Barbizon, School of Fashion in NYC. After settling back in Liberty, NY she proudly worked as her father’s bookkeeper at George J. Asthalter Excavating. Joan enjoyed the simple things in life. She was an artist and her paintings adorned the walls of her family’s homes. She attended the original Woodstock Festival in 1969 and loved to talk about her adventures there. Joan loved to dance and she exemplified the quote; dance like nobody’s is watching. Finally, Joan enjoyed traveling out west with her love of her life, Steen Andersen, where they enjoyed camping, hiking and photographing their experiences.

Joan leaves her companion of 39 years, Steen Andersen, at home; her son, E. Christian Cheh of Kingston, NY; her daughter, Alexa Mickelson and her husband Ron of Grahamsville, NY; her beloved grandchildren, Kelgin, Breckin, and Amelia Claire; her sister, Barbara Siegel of Parksville, NY; her daughter-in-law, Heather Cheh; her cherished dog, Phoebe Snow and her adored cat, Rambo to cherish her loving memory.

At this time Joan’s family will celebrate her life privately.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Harris Funeral Home, West St. at Buckley, Liberty, NY 845-292-0001 or 845-439-5200 www.Harris-FH.com.
