SULLIVAN COUNTY — On Friday, July 19th NACL presents a return engagement with the Larval Mask Collective that will share a completed version of their new play, REFUGE, which they had developed last year while in residence here.

REFUGE is a wordless play with original sound design. It explores displacement and migration drawn from personal stories of the 8-person performance collective and is performed in the tradition of Larval Masks, which present human characters in a “state of becoming.” Larval Mask characters have a simple way of moving through the world and represent us at our most curious and vulnerable. Their otherworldly quality plunges the audience into the unsettling experience of being in an alien land. The masks evoke the intimacy of individual experience without settling on a specific person, time or place, allowing the story to transcend nationality and culture.

On July 19th, join NACL for a Larval Mask presentation that integrates the story of a father and daughter fleeing their homeland with an “everyperson” experience of bureaucratic labyrinths, and encounters with the larger political, social and environmental forces that cause people to move.

The presentation will be followed by light refreshment and lively conversation.

NACL Hybrid Performance Event LOONACY

However you spell it, you’re going to have a good time. For all those who joined NACL in April for OUTRAGEOUS (and for all of those who missed it), get ready for the second installment of their “seasonal hybrid performance events” this year, which will be a celebration for Lughnasadh (pronounced: LOO-nah-sah), the Celtic holiday that marks the traditional beginning of the harvest, about halfway between summer solstice and autumnal equinox. The festivities will include a gathering of local performers for a magical, music-filled evening under the stars. So mark your calendars with a big red X because summer’s flying by and you’re going to want to savor the sound of it all on August 3rd at NACL.

More information and tickets at NACL.ORG. $20 Advance Tickets / $25 At Door.
