MONTICELLO — During the Village of Monticello’s Wednesday night meeting, NAACP Outreach Coordinator Parrish Martin spoke of an upcoming Juneteenth Celebration Barbecue at Morningside Park from Noon to 4 p.m. on June 19.
“I saw Trustee Janice... when I was working on getting the mass emails out and donation letter and the...vendor forms,” stated Martin. “If you guys want to be a vendor, if you want to be a part, if you want to donate we’re open to donations. It takes a community and it takes a village.”
Being a part of the NAACP, Parrish described himself as “smitten” and proud of his heritage.
He stated that they take this opportunity for Juneteenth to show where “we come from” and where they have been.
Martin also described it as being about inclusion, happiness and sharing good food and breaking bread with everyone in the community.
“Come on out and join us,” said Martin. “If you would like to donate on behalf of the Village I would really encourage that and you would want to donate individually I would really encourage that. I would appreciate it and the community at large would appreciate it.”
Those interested in reserving a table for the Juneteenth BBQ Celebration are encouraged to do so by June 4.
